Butter and other types of oils have started to be replaced by olive oil, which is gradually more present in Norwegian homes and restaurants.

The World Olive Oil Exhibition, the biggest fair exclusively devoted to the international olive oil trade, is preparing its 4th edition for the coming 12th and 13th of March 2015.

Olive oil is gaining ground in Norway, according to the study “The olive oil market in Norway”, carried out by Alicia Ortega, under the supervision of the Economic and Trade Office at the Spanish Embassy in Oslo.

MERCACEI Magazine, the official sponsor of the WOOE, provides an in depth report which includes some interesting facts to further understand the Norwegian market and for potential commercial actions in the future. A good example of these facts is that “up to just a couple of years ago, Spain was at the forefront of virgin olive oil imports in Norway, however Italy has since then taken their place”.

With regard to market sharing, Italy, Spain and Greece control more than 90% of the market; and while the first two hold both around 40% market share, Greece reaches 15%.

According to the ICEX’s report, Norwegians consider Spanish food products to be of high quality in general, although below the French and the Italian products. However, this fact does not apply to olive oil.

Norwegian importing companies attended the last World Olive Oil Exhibition; and their presence is hoped to expand next year with a larger number of visitors from the country.

The 4th WOOE will be held on the coming 12th and 13th of March 2014 with the objective of increasing the number of professional visitors from all over the world. During the past WOOE, more than 37 countries participated with their olive oil importing companies.

To increase international transactions for their products, this event is also paramount to the one hundred or so companies that participated in the 2014 WOOE, which were mainly olive oil producers, but also business agents, suppliers for the olive oil sector, and specialized media.

The World Olive Oil Exhibition will keep on working for and supporting all the trade categories, whether they are commercialized as packaged or bulk products.
