On the coming 13thand 14thof March, IFEMA will gather the most representative range of this season’s olive oils: a unique opportunity for producers, importers and professionals in the sector.
The second edition of the international meeting for bulk oil will be held the on the coming 13th and 14th of March at Pavilion 1 of the IFEMA. It will be an exceptional opportunity to taste, recognize and compare products from the different production areas in Spain and other countries, at the biggest exhibition on this season’s olive oils. .
That is why the World Bulk Oil Exhibition aims to become a tool for all the parties involved in the value chain of the olive oil sector, and the event not to miss in order to attain the best prices in a market known for its constant fluctuations.
The 2012/2013 season was marked by the drop in Spanish production, whose decrease is an estimated 65%. This will entail a 25% reduction in this year’s overall olive oil production. This significant shrinkage is compensated by the increase in production of countries such as Italy, Greece and Tunisia. On the 31st of January, the Spanish harvest was of 535.816,90 tons of olive oil, according to the data of the Olive Oil Agency. This amount can alter slightly at the end of the season due to the olives harvested later and several adjustments.
The slump in production in Jaen and Castille-La-Mancha has been somewhat counterbalanced as a result of Cordoba’s production which has remained steady.
At international level, Greece has increased its production by more than 20%, according to International Olive Council December forecasts: 350.000 tons compared to the 295.000 tons of last season’s harvest. Italy’s production also increased by around 10%: from 450.000 to 490.00 tons, which is the same percentage Portugal has slipped back: from 76.200 to 68.600 tons. France’s production has gone up from 3.300 to 4.300 tons and Cyprus has leveled off at 5.600 tons, the same figure as last year. Also in Europe, Albania’s production has climbed from 7.000 to 8.500 tons.
Outside the European Union, Tunisia increased its harvest by more than 20% with production growing from 180.000 to 220.000 tons. Algeria improved its production by 5%, showing a slight increase from 54.400 to 56.500 tons. Egypt’s production also shot up 20% going from 10.000 to 12.000 tons. In the same way as Spain, Argentina suffered a setback and its production halved from 32.000 to 17.000 tons, while Australia’s production has held firmly at the 19.000 tons of the previous season.
Consequently, this situation will help to reduce the still considerable oil stocks and makes the coming season a promising one. Buyers and sellers will have an excellent opportunity to meet at Pavilion 1 of the IFEMA on the 13th and 14th of March.
The first edition of the World Bulk Oil Exhibitionwas held on April 2012 where 134producing and bottling companies participated and over two thousand professionals from all over the world attended. With these facts in mind, the organization faces the challenge of expanding and enhancing the event for its second edition that will be held on the 13th and 14th of March 2013.
